Seminar for arts education teachers “Bridges between Performing Arts and Education”


The seminar “Bridges between Performing Arts and Education” is the closing event of the 20th anniversary  program of the ASSITEJ Lithuania, funded by Vilnius City Municipality, to mark the International Day of the Convention on the Rights of the Child on November 20. Throughout the year, ASSITEJ Lithuania carried out various activities to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the association. On February 1, we celebrated the birthday with an online event, which was also attended by guests from abroad, during which we presented the printed and electronic publication ASSITEJ Lithuania from 2001 to 2021. On March 20 to commemorate World Theater Day for Children and Youth, we organized an online national conference “Lithuanian Theater for Children and Youth: Between Past and Future” where theater critics analyzing theater for children and youth, as well as creators of performing arts for children and youth partisipated with their presentations followed by the participants discussions. On June 1 the International Children’s Day we invited to the national campaign “Back to the Live Theater” and showed performances for children and youth free of charge throughout Lithuania. In September, we organized an online showcase of ASSITEJ Lithuania, during which the members of the association presented their latest products for the Culture Passport program. The main event of the anniversary year was the 6th International Theater Festival for Children and Youth JĖGA/COOL, which took place on October 4-8 in Klaipėda, funded by the Lithuanian Culture Council and Klaipėda City Municipality.

The seminar “Bridges between Performing Arts and Education” is intended for art education teachers, where ASSITEJ Lithuania members will share their insights, experiences and offer teachers different ideas on how to apply different theater methods in the educational process to stimulate students’ creativity and imagination.
The seminar will take place remotely on the Zoom platform, will also be broadcast on ASITEŽO’s Facebook account, and the recording will be available on ASSITEJ Lithuania Youtube channel later.

15.00–15.30 Presentation of Violeta Podolskaitė, President of ASSITEJ Lithuania “Connections of ASSITEJ Lithuania with arts education teachers”, during which the main activities of ASSITEJ Lithuania will be presented, projects implemented and possibilities of cooperation with teachers of art education discussed.
15.30–16.00 discussions, raising and discussing educational problems with the participants
16.00–16.30 Saulės Degutytė’s practical activity “Application of Object Theater Methods in Working with Students in Grades 1-6”, during which the possibilities of object theater will be presented in order to stimulate the creativity of younger students.
16.30–17.00 Raimondas Klezis’ practical session “Application of Documentary Theater Methods in Working with Students in Grades 7-12”, during which the genre of documentary theater and its methods suitable for finding inspiration in working with students in senior classes were introduced.

Violeta Podolskaitė – Founder and long-term president of the ASSITEJ Lithuania, former actress of the State Youth Theater, has played more than 70 roles in theater and cinema
Saulė Degutytė – Member of the Board of ASSITEJ Lithuania, founder and manager of “Stalo Teatras”, creator of an inventive theater of objects, whose performances are shown in Lithuania and abroad. Saulė organizes seminars for educators, creative workshops for children and youth. 2011 and 2014 “Stalo teatras” was awarded with the Golden Cross of the Stage awards of the Ministry of Culture.
Raimondas Klezys – Member of the Board of ASSITEJ Lithuania, director of “No shoes theater”, theater educator, playwright, actor creating dramaturgy for infants, children and youth performances, presenting his work on the Lithuanian and foreign professional stage, to socially sensitive groups, working with orphans, young people in prisons.
