“Forward to the live theater!” this year the ASSITEJ Lithuania invites children and youth and on the 1st June and organizes a national theater campaign in various regions of Lithuania. The campaign was initiated in 2021, when, after a long period of the pandemic, during which performances were mostly online in virtual space, the release of quarantine restrictions made it possible to invite children back to the live theater. This year, after the release of social restrictions earlier, ASSITEJ Lithuania continues its campaign because it wants to encourage children and youth to continue attending live performances. During the campaign to mark the International Children’s Day, events of various content and form will be presented to audience from 0 to 18 years of age. Drama, puppetry, objects, circus, dance performances, creative, educational activities and laboratories, and most importantly, free of charge live meetings for children and young people with professional performing arts and artists.
Alytus City Theater is participating in the campaign, which will invite yougn audience to visit the play “Bunny Puikis” for children aged 4-7 (directed by Andra Kavaliauskaitė). Kaunas State Puppet Theater will welcome children aged 7-13 and will offer an educational program “Who Hides Behind the Puppet Theater Screen”, the Baltic Circus at the Palemonas Children’s Day Center will show performances of various circus genres to spectators aged 7-18. Kaunas City Chamber Theater together with its partner “Kaunas European Capital of Culture 2022” will invite children aged 5-12 to the educational theater and movement workshop at Vytautas Magnus University Botanical Garden. In front of its main entrance Kaunas National Drama Theater will surprise with the performance of circus acrobats “What if?”, suitable for audience of 0-99 years.
ASSITEJ Lithuania members residing in Vilnius will also join the campaign. Vilnius Theater “LĖLĖ” will offer as many as three free events, the “Table Theater” (directed by Saulė Degutytė) will perform for children from Ukrainian refugee families at the sanatorium “Pušyno kelias” based on the ancient Lithuanian myth “Eglė žalčių Karalienė”. Dansema Dance Theater will perform for children of 0-3 years dance performance “Colorful Games” (choreographer Birutė Banevičiūtė) in the Department of Oncohematology of Children’s Hospital of Vilnius Santara Clinics.
