ALYTUS PUPPET THEATER „AITVARAS“

Alytus Puppet Theater „Aitvaras“ (The Kite) was founded in 1996 by the initiative of the visual artist Loreta Skruibienė and Alytus City Municipality. The Lithuanian Ministry of Culture granted the status of a professional theater in 2005. „Aitvaras“ is the only professional puppet theater in Southern Lithuania. In 2003 the Puppet Museum „Puppet Room“ was established, where theatrical puppets are exhibited, performances and theater events are shown, and educational puppet theater programs for children take place. Since 1999 the theater organizes the International Puppet Theater Festival-Competition „Aitvaras“.
